About The King of Minami: The Special Movie
When aspiring businessman Chiwaki borrows money from the LA mafia and flees to Japan to escape his debt, he soon finds himself being chased throughout Osaka by the local yakuza and a mafia loan shark. Chiwaki plans to get out of debt by investing in a high-end beauty salon, with a loan from Ginjiro Manda. Soon, Chiwaki finds himself pursued by Manda as well, who is willing to go up against the mafia to get his money back.
Directed by Sadaaki Haginiwa, The King of Minami: The Special Movie leans on a strong ensemble — Riki Takeuchi, Yoshihiko Takamoku, Mai Kitajima — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1995.
