About Jhumura
Rwik and Sahana are journalists from Calcutta, who visit `Jhumura`, a fictitious village in Purulia to do a story on `Jhumur`, an almost dying folk art. The young duo meets an elderly couple, who are traditional Jhumur artists. Their conversation leads Rwik and Sahana to discover an unheard tale of love, hatred and compassion that commence with the tune of Jhumur and culminate in the serene locales of Purulia. This film is a lyrical saga that revolves around the life, love and struggles of Jhumur performers of Bengal.
Directed by Anindya Papai Chatterjee, Jhumura leans on a strong ensemble — Samadarshi Dutta, Sohini Sarkar, Debapratimm Dasgupta — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2015.
