About Border Under Lock
The film depicts the years before the collapse of the Soviet system and the rebellion against it. Its protagonist is a young man who cannot get along in Soviet society, which is why many people consider him crazy. As a result, he decides to illegally cross the border and finally escape the confines of everyday life, challenging the tired system one last time.
Directed by Serhii Lysenko, Border Under Lock leans on a strong ensemble — Vasyl Hoidenko, Mykola Babenko, Davyd Babaiev — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1988.
