Osamu Asaku, who lives a stressful and uninteresting life, heads to the wedding of his ex-girlfriend but he feels intimidated and turns back on the verge. Rina, who pantomimes on the street, is in the midst of her job search but has not found her future. A drunken Asaku gets involved with Rina, and the two meet again the next day and go to the beach.
Directed by Teppei Isobe, We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea leans on a strong ensemble — Riku Tokimitsu, Rina Kawagishi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2017.
