About The Woman in Purple
In 2016, a film crew begin the shooting of a documentary called The Women in Purple that investigates the rapid increase of violence against women in Turkey, where more than two women lose their lives every day. Hunting a story of a victim of domestic violence, the members of the crew become victims themselves, hunted within the story, leaving only their footage behind.
Directed by Onur Özcan, Aleksandra Kardalevska, The Woman in Purple leans on a strong ensemble — Merve Kayaalp, Tuba Karabey, Bahadır Buyruk — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2017.
