Anna, a young Russian student, finds herself in France, forced into prostitution by a mafia network. She manages to escape, but in an illegal situation and without money, she finds herself on the street. She meets two undocumented migrants, a Senegalese and a Romanian in an illegal situation. Both will help her to survive and to try to escape from the mafia.

Directed by Alain Carville, Celle qui n'existait pas leans on a strong ensemble — Laura Weissbecker, Paul Belmondo, Cécile Calvet — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2004.
