About Zhan dou li cheng zhang
After being swindled out of his land by a local landlord in 1930s China, a grandfather commits suicide. His son burns down the landlord's house in a fit of rage, then escapes to join the PLA. His grandson later joins the PLA too in the 1940s to avenge his father, grandfather and mother.
Directed by Yan Jizhou, Sun Min, Zhan dou li cheng zhang leans on a strong ensemble — Tian Dan, Jian Li, Jia Liu — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about war titles of 1957.
