About Welcome to Bongtaeri
Il Woo thinks that 'owning his own house' and 'living a stable and happy life' are equivalent and therefore becomes a 'fake nature-lover' in an isolated countryside village called Bongtaeri in order to save a pharmaceutical company and earn 200% of his yearly income. Bong-sook is forced to play a trick in order to achieve her dream of becoming a police officer due to her parents' announcement to stop financially supporting her and transforms into a 'fake farmer' in Bongtaeri, the mountain village where her maternal grandfather lives. The two get involved when a mysterious shoe theft incident occurs in Bongtaeri.
Directed by Park Jeong-rye, Welcome to Bongtaeri leans on a strong ensemble — Kim Yoon-hye, Oh Seung-hoon, Chang Seung-yeon — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 2023.
