A schoolgirl goes from braids to bouffant when her mother makes her a bar hostess/prostitute. She cures impotence for Professor Lee and becomes his concubine. His entrepreneurial wife is initially shocked but soon accepts the arrangement and even gives the girl an allowance.
Directed by Kim Ki-young, Insect Woman leans on a strong ensemble — Youn Yuh-jung, Namkoong Won, Jeon Gye-hyeon — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about horror titles of 1972.
