Television adaptation of the theater performance of the same name by the Dutch Ruut Weissman and George Groot. The Dutch cabaret artists Jenny Arean, Frits Lambrechts, Lucretia van der Vloot and Kasper van Kooten revive the vanished Jewish entertainment in Amsterdam. Recorded in the Tip Top theater café of the Academie van de Kleinkunst in Amsterdam, which is on the same spot where the Tip Top Theater used to be.
Directed by Han Budding, Ruut Weissman, Tip Top leans on a strong ensemble — Jenny Arean, Frits Lambrechts, Lucretia van der Vloot — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about music titles of 1999.
