About Teenage Idol
Tina a kindergarten teacher from a poor family is persuaded to be a prostitute in Jakarta, after being trapped by a women-trafficking syndicate. Meanwhile, her rich boyfriend, Anwar, is truly in love with her, but makes a mistake when he gives her up to a man whom he thinks loves her deeply. Tina is admitted into a mental institution after breaking down. Anwar regrets his decision, and tries with all his best to cure her and he finally succeeds.
Directed by Arizal, Teenage Idol leans on a strong ensemble — Joice Erna, Roy Marten, Kemala Sari — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1979.
