About Ketika Dia Pergi
Two doctors, Robert and Siska, are assigned to a village in the area of Bromo but their presence creates conflict. The villagers, who normally consult a shaman for their health issues, are not used to modern medical doctors. The tension tises when a patient who used to be treated by shaman, dies and there’s nothing that Robert can do. Meanwhile, Siska suffers an unexplainable illness and also dies. Strange illnesses then start to emerge in surrounding villages. Finally, the doctor and the shaman help each other. When the shaman is dying, the doctor treats him.
Directed by Buce Malawau, Ketika Dia Pergi leans on a strong ensemble — Asrul Zulmi, Nungki Kusumastuti, R.D. Mochtar — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1990.
