Together with his partner Bete, he abandons public life to fight the system, while also raising two kids. Based on the life of José Carlos Novais da Mata-Machado who died under torture at the age of 27, falsely accused of betraying his companions.
Directed by Rafael Conde, Zé leans on a strong ensemble — Caio Horowicz, Eduarda Fernandes, Samantha Jones — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2023.
