About Swindler's Ippei
A trio of fraudsters, Ippei, Saki, and Gen, who work seriously (?) every day with the motto, "My life is solidified with lies, I'm a serious hard worker!" They are geniuses when it comes to tricking people with their kuchihacchode haccho. The person they set their sights on is the director of Okawara General Hospital. There is no mercy for the unscrupulous doctor who uses exorbitant medical bills on the weak to fill his pocket and threatens to donate his organs if he can't pay them! Will Ippei and his friends be able to win a lot of money!?
Directed by Shinobu Murata, Swindler's Ippei leans on a strong ensemble — Hagiwara fashion, Miyuki Komatsu, Sanshō Shinsui — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1999.
