Zaman-Y

In the 30s, as is known, a large number of Kazakhs moved to China, among them the daughter of aul bai, who was killed by the Red Army. Many years later, she, a gray-haired old woman, having stolen her only grandson from her parents illegally, crosses the border through the mountains and returns to her historical homeland.

Directed by Bolat Shmanov, Zaman-Y leans on a strong ensemble — Zamzagul Sharipova, Gulnara Seytimbetova, Yerik Zholzhaksynov — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1998.
