Checkmate

The story of a young man named Behrouz who fails in everything he does. Instead of finding the reason for his failures, Behrouz thinks that he is unlucky and because his bad luck continues, he commits suicide, but he is unsuccessful. Behrouz decides to commit suicide again, but this time a nervous young psychology resident named Parisa saves him and in order to prevent him from committing suicide again, she promises that he will not have any more bad luck and even a very big chance is waiting for him. Behrouz believes, but he threatens that if it doesn't happen, he will kill himself and this is the beginning of new adventures for Behrouz.

Directed by Jamshid Heydari, Checkmate leans on a strong ensemble — Elnaz Shakerdoost, Hamid Goodarzi, Behnoush Bakhtiari — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 2009.
