The Gift from Heaven

Mai, a normal high-schooler, dreams of exciting adventures. When she meets handsome Kagu, her first impression couldn’t be worse. He’s rough and rude, and they seem to quarrel every time they see each other. And yet, as they see each other more and more, Mai discovers Kagu’s softer side, and slowly, they fall for each other. Both are too stubborn to express their feelings and painfully let every opportunity slip by until, one day, everything changes . . .

Directed by Shinichi Nakada, The Gift from Heaven leans on a strong ensemble — Kagimoto Akira, Yuki Shimizu, Yukari Taki — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 2007.
