Modi Gazit is a average comedian whose agent tries to promote him. After he fails in a TV audition he and his girlfriend plan a scam which will make him appear live on TV. After he manages to do so, he gets to a crossroads: he must decide whether to wait for an opportunity to take over the US or to go back to his country and his lover.
Directed by Shmuel Imberman, Tel-Aviv - Los Angeles leans on a strong ensemble — Dudu Topaz, Zak Cohen, Avigail Ariely — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1988.
