The Basement

A young woman runs away from her palace to investigate the disappearance of her father, who went missing under mysterious way. A lawyer appears to her claiming that he is from her fiancé and that he will help her find the investigation. He takes her to his mysterious palace, which contains a basement in which strange sounds are heard, to begin a series of investigations and an attempt to solve these mysteries.

Directed by Nour El Demerdash, The Basement leans on a strong ensemble — Madiha Kamel, Hussein ElSherbiny, Nabil Al Helfawi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1990.
