About My Dad is not Dead
Malik and his father Mehdi live in a funfair where they work as handymen. Mehdi gives his son five special paintings. Curious Malik is dazzled by the beauty of these works. The next day, the two accidentally find themselves in the middle of a political rally. Mehdi is brutalized in front of Malik by two cops who accuse him of propaganda against the government. Later that night, the police burst into the funfair and arrested Mehdi. Shocked, Malik begins searching for his father with the help of the other showmen, finding answers in the paintings his father left behind.
Directed by Adil el Fadili, My Dad is not Dead leans on a strong ensemble — Nadia Kounda, Faouzi Bensaïdi, Didier Bénureau — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2023.
