The Second Breath

Theater director Lin Su recruits Nan Xi, a recent college graduate and first-time actress, to play a suicidal young woman in his latest production. Nan Xi showed great talent in acting, but struggles to connect with her role. Off stage, Lin Su confronts a lingering attachment from his past, while Nan Xi navigates a troubled childhood, family pressure, and a love she has no answer for.

Directed by 申由甲, The Second Breath leans on a strong ensemble — Zhong Chenyao, 梁戟, 刘添祺 — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2023.
