
Developed by Paul Copley from his own 1977 stage play, Pillion tells the story of motorbike enthusiast Fenton and his friends, meeting in a rural shed. Recorded in the first half of 1979 for the BBC's Play for Today, the finished play was never broadcast.
Directed by Keith Evans, Pillion leans on a strong ensemble — Edward Peel, Ashley Barker, Billy McColl — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about tv movie titles of 1979.
