Andy, a high school student, suffers from frustration. He did not receive love from his stepmother. His father, who is a director, is also busy. Andy's frustration increases when he catches his stepmother cheating on him. He ran away and was taken in by a homosexual painter. When the homosexual was about to have sex with him, Andy ran away. The father divorced his wife, then invited Andy back.
Directed by Syamsul Fuad, Remaja di Lampu Merah leans on a strong ensemble — Rano Karno, Ita Mustafa, Vita Fatimah — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1979.
