During the years of the Republic of China, there were strange rumors circulating in the Northeast, and the old hunter, Master Ma San, was proficient in hunting and knew how to drive away ghosts and break the evil spirits. At the foot of the Changbai Mountains, the villagers of Huanggoutun are terrified of the evil spirits and the frequent occurrence of many tragedies. The villagers are terrified. Master Ma, who has been living alone in the mountains for more than ten years, goes out to solve the strange cases and investigate the secrets of the old forest. In the old forest where strange things happen frequently, the dusty past is constantly being uncovered.
Directed by Zhang Jiahao, Legend of Changbai Mountain Hunter leans on a strong ensemble — Zheng Hao, Wang Zhao, Li Daqiang — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about mystery titles of 2024.
