The accused

(Laila) is forced to marry a businessman after she discovered that her fiancé, who traveled to work in an Arab country, had married from there. She traveled with her husband to spend their honeymoon, but she suddenly returns from the trip due to her father’s condition deteriorating. She is arrested at the airport, where there is a bag of heroin in her bag without her knowledge. She discovers that her husband works in drug smuggling.

Directed by Henry Barakat, The accused leans on a strong ensemble — Salah Zulfikar, Maaly Zayed, Salah Qabil — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1992.
