The film tells the story of a young blind woman. Elif, who lives with her father, is left completely alone after losing him. However, the entire town, led by the former gangster Arap Hasan, supports Elif. Meanwhile, a young man named Kadir takes an interest in Elif. Kadir, who performs surgery to restore Elif's sight, falls in love with her. Meanwhile, a gang that Kadir has disrupted kidnaps Elif in an attempt to pit Kadir against Arab Hasan. Their goal is to get Arab Hasan to kill Kadir.
Directed by Ülkü Erakalın, Sevdalılar leans on a strong ensemble — Serdar Gökhan, Naser Malek Motiee, Perihan Savaş — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1976.
