Playing with fire

Sumaya asks Ezzat for help to protect her from those who are tracking her. It becomes clear to him that her husband, Mohsen, is part of a diamond smuggling gang led by Shawkat. Mohsen seizes a map showing the location of the smuggled diamonds. He hands over the map to Soumya. Soumya sends a letter to the police. One of Shawkat's agents assaults Sumaya, and Ezzat appears at this moment and flees the place.

Directed by Mohamed Marzooq, Playing with fire leans on a strong ensemble — Samir Sabri, Samah Anwar, Abu Bakr Ezzat — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1989.
