About Earth the Foster-Mother
The peasant Juras Tarutis takes part in the struggle for independent Lithuania and in the election campaign for the Sejm, painfully experiencing the fascist coup in 1926. At first, he firmly believes in land reform and only after difficult trials, he become disillusioned with the reform and with the bourgeois system itself.
Directed by Bronius Talacka, Earth the Foster-Mother leans on a strong ensemble — Vladas Bagdonas, Idalija Krikščionaitytė, Tomas Vaisieta — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1977.
