About Shiva Mecchida Kannappa
The film is about the life of Kannappa, a hunter who becomes a Lord Shiva devotee. This was the 4th movie as a lead actor for Shivarajkumar, directed by the legendary Vijay who is known for classics like Mayura, Gandhada Gudi among others. This was the only movie in which Dr. Rajkumar, his elder son Shivarajkumar and youngest son Puneeth Rajkumar were seen together. Whereas Dr. Rajkumar’s second son Raghavendra Rajkumar was one of the producers to the movie. The movie was also the alternate version of Dr. Rajkumar’s debut movie Bedara Kannappa.
Directed by Vijay, Shiva Mecchida Kannappa leans on a strong ensemble — Shiva Rajkumar, Dr. Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about fantasy titles of 1988.
