After the war, the young totalitarian authority was afraid of Jesuits that had good connections all over the world, even in the countries Slovenian political immigrants fled to. They were accused of hostile activities and put to a framed-up trial.

Directed by Metod Pevec, The Film Before the Altar leans on a strong ensemble — Matija Barl, Ivo Belec, P. Edmund Boehm — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about documentary titles of 2006.
