About Funeral Song of Ashura
Cathy (Atsuko Okamoto), who works at a soapland, and Goro (Ryunosuke Kawai), a boy at the same shop, beat up the manager after a sudden dispute and flee with 7 million yen stolen from the store. Along the way, they accidentally hit a menacing man named Daimura (Riki Takeuchi), turning their escape into an unexpected three-person journey. The Wachi family launches a desperate manhunt for Goro and the others. Meanwhile, Daimura learns that while he was in prison, his Daimura-gumi is being dissolved and absorbed into a larger alliance through a sake-cup ceremony led by the Wakagashira Okura (Kazuyoshi Ozawa). Determined to stop it, Daimura arms himself and heads alone for the ceremony venue—but…!!
Directed by Masahiro Asao, Funeral Song of Ashura leans on a strong ensemble — Riki Takeuchi, Atsuko Okamoto, Ryunosuke Kawai — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about action titles of 2012.
