The conflict between the young school teacher Studentsov and the head teacher Lukyanova divided the residents of the village of Zhukovka into two parts. The eighth graders supported their teacher, who was genuinely worried not so much about the fate of each pupil as for the future of the hopeless village.
Directed by Valentin Morozov, Snow on a Green Field leans on a strong ensemble — Rufina Nifontova, Vladimir Eryomin, Yuriy Solovyov — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about family titles of 1981.
