About Mayonaka no tsuma-tachi
This occult suspense depicts the horror of a confrontation between a woman who senses spirits and a woman who is possessed by spirits. Aki Akazawa (Aiko Morishita), who lives in the company housing of a trading company, has always developed psychic abilities. One day, Aki attends a party and meets Misa Urakami (Yoko Natsuki), secretary to the general manager of the company, and senses something terrifying and evil. Misa soon reveals her true nature and begins blackmailing the ladies of the company housing complex.
Directed by Tsugunobu Kotani, Mayonaka no tsuma-tachi leans on a strong ensemble — Aiko Morishita, Yoko Natsuki, Hiroaki Murakami — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about horror titles of 1987.
