About Taxi Negro
Marcelo is a humble taxi driver who travels the streets of Bogotá daily. On one occasion he tries to help a sick passenger, with such bad luck that the man dies. Looking for some identification¸ Marcelo opens a briefcase¸ which he finds full of money. He hesitates for a moment and decides to run away with the briefcase. The film narrates the fate of Marcelo full of guilt because of ill-gotten money.
Directed by José Delfos, Taxi Negro leans on a strong ensemble — Ramón Aranza, Ronald Ayazo, Alicia de Rojas — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1980.
