Barbara Köster is suddenly alone: her baby daughter Leonie moved out when she was eighteen, as did her husband Walter years ago, who left the family for a younger woman. At 58, Barbara is left alone - alone in a house that is too big for her, alone in a job that doesn't fulfill her and alone with the stale feeling that she has missed out on something in life.

Directed by Matthias Steurer, Zu schön um wahr zu sein leans on a strong ensemble — Sabine Postel, Peter Sattmann, Andreas Pietschmann — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2012.
