The story of the “Oresteia” begins with King Agamemnon's return to Argos after the fall of Troy. The chorus, composed of old Argives, recalls the sacrifice offered to the gods by Agamemnon, in Aulis, of his daughter Iphigenia to gain their favor.
Directed by Luca Ronconi, Marco Parodi, Orestea leans on a strong ensemble — Mariangela Melato, Marzio Margine, Marisa Fabbri — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1972.
