Aparan

Viswanathan comes to the city for a job interview, only to find himself entangled in a crisis due to his resemblance with a gangster. Frustrated, he decides to find and face his doppelgänger with the help of a police inspector friend, but finding the imposter proves difficult, and the further they dig, the more mysterious and shocking their findings.

Directed by P. Padmarajan, Aparan leans on a strong ensemble — Jayaram, Shobana, Madhu — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about mystery titles of 1988.
