The Happy Chimp

Agnes is a newly engaged woman, with what can be considered the perfect soon to be husband Ville. But now they find themselves at a dinner with Ville’s brother Leo, someone a lot of people would refer to as a “free spirit”. Agnes has a dark secret she wants to remain hidden, an affair of infidelity with Leo, that she has called off because of the engagement. But her worry of the secret being exposed, is instead turned into jealousy and disgust when Leo’s new girlfriend SASHA turns up unannounced. Now Agnes needs to find her footing at this awkward double date, trying to figure out what Leo is trying to do without losing Ville in the process.

Directed by Love Lundgren, Axel Gillberg, Karl Lyth Bellman, The Happy Chimp leans on a strong ensemble — Maja Thoresen, Johan L. Heinstedt, Simon Rajala — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2024.
