About Mondo Lux: The Visual Worlds of Werner Schroeter
Werner Schroeter was one of the most significant proponents of New German Cinema. Schroeter was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. In her film, Elfi Mikesch, who photographed a number of Schroeter’s films and who collaborated closely with him to create his vision, provides us with an intimate insight into Schroeter’s artistic output during the remaining four years of his life.
Directed by Elfi Mikesch, Mondo Lux: The Visual Worlds of Werner Schroeter leans on a strong ensemble — Werner Schroeter, Rosa von Praunheim, Ingrid Caven — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about documentary titles of 2011.
