About Through The Lights
The film tells the story of Natalia, an immigrant from Belarus who leaves for Poland to escape persecution for taking part in street protests. Natalia was studying acting at the Theatre Academy but has to work as a cleaner. To achieve her goal of performing on stage, Natalia has to face her fears: after getting out of prison, she is afraid of bright lights. In Poland, the girl makes new friends, but being too naive, she is almost victimized by a man who only pretends to be a do-gooder.
Directed by Victoria Yegorova, Through The Lights leans on a strong ensemble — Olga Pipichanka, Joanna Gajęcka, Krzysztof Żarowski — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2023.
