About Siberian Rescue
Icon restorer Begun lost everything — his wife, his son, and his beloved profession. And after getting involved in smuggling a batch of stolen icons abroad, he ended up owing a large sum of money to the bigwigs of the criminal underworld. He was given a condition: to find and bring to Moscow the miraculous icon “Siberian Savior,” which had been left in one of the villages lost in the remote Siberian taiga a hundred years ago.
Directed by Efim Reznikov, Siberian Rescue leans on a strong ensemble — Andrey Molotkov, Vladimir Vinogradov, Igor Volkov — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1998.
