The ghost of the King of Denmark tells his son Hamlet to avenge his murder by killing the new king Claudius, Hamlet's uncle. Hamlet feigns madness, contemplates life and death, and seeks revenge. His uncle, fearing for his life, also devises plots to kill Hamlet.
Directed by Hannes Rossacher, Thomas Ostermeier, Hamlet leans on a strong ensemble — Lars Eidinger, Urs Jucker, Judith Rosmair — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2008.
