In a cemetery in the city she has just arrived in by night train, a woman discovers that a man (probably her father) had recently been exhumed by the owners due to late payment. In desperation, she cremates his remains and moves on, to an unknown address where she accidentally meets a former lover from her youth. After a few drinks together, deep-seated wounds begin to surface, and the idealistic romanticism of early youth is replaced by the realization that life has not been kind to either of them.
Directed by Martha G. Marmeliuc, O zi leans on a strong ensemble — Maia Morgenstern, Claudiu Istodor — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1997.
