Xiao Ran (played by Tong Dawei) is a renowned and exceptionally talented music producer. Yet, at the pinnacle of his career, he finds himself drifting further away from the passionate and sincere musical ideals he once held. By chance, a public service advertisement on TV about volunteer teaching initiatives captures his attention. With motives that are far from pure, Xiao Ran assembles a star-studded team and sets off in a grand caravan toward remote mountainous regions. An unexpected storm disrupted Xiao Ran's plans, cutting off the roads to the outside world. Left behind, Xiao Ran found himself stranded in a impoverished mountain village. By a twist of fate, he became the temporary homeroom teacher at the village school. Over time, the initial conflicts and adjustments gradually transformed into mutual dependence and trust. With the roads repaired, Xiao Ran was about to return to his own life.

Directed by Pan Anzi, 志愿者 leans on a strong ensemble — Tong Dawei, Yang Ruoxi, Feng Peng — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about tv movie titles of 2008.
