
Daku (1955) is a gloriously chaotic, pulp-masala gem from the Wadia Brothers, directed by Babubhai Mistry, the godfather of lo-fi epic fantasy. It stars a young, irrepressible Shammi Kapoor, the fierce and fabulous Shashikala as his heroine, and the ultra-glam Kuldip Kaur as the royal vamp.
Directed by Aspi Irani, Daku leans on a strong ensemble — Maya Dass, Anwar Hussain, Shashikala — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about action titles of 1955.
