A young European, Diego Medina (Carvell), joins the Mexican revolution and becomes a courier for Pancho Villa. He is captured and tortured by the Federales but escapes to the desert where he meets and joins a bandit named Malpelo (Fajardo) and his gang.
Directed by Giuseppe Maria Scotese, El Bandido Malpelo leans on a strong ensemble — Eduardo Fajardo, Charo López, José Nieto — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about western titles of 1971.
