About Happens in your absence
The film deals with the current and urgent Syrian issue, through the story of a journalist and a doctor, who belong to two different backgrounds in the city of Homs. The dialectic of their relationship begins through a kidnapping operation, and a desire for revenge. They find themselves in a semi-abandoned house amidst a state of ruin, danger and fear. In contact with the bleeding future, the days bring them many radical changes, so that together they will be a different tomorrow.
Directed by Seif Eddin Subaie, Happens in your absence leans on a strong ensemble — Yazan Khalil, Ruba Zarour, Jalal Shammout — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2021.
