About Strange Stories of Five Lives River
In the early days of the Republic of China, a series of mysterious cases occurred at Wuming River. The river deity, Master Ba Ye, and his apprentice Yue'er are invited by villager Qiu Sheng to help exorcise evil spirits afflicting his sister. As Master Ba Ye arrives, the hidden truths behind the deaths at Wuming River slowly come to light. It turns out that the wealthy local nobleman, Qian Jinming, is deeply entangled in the events. Beneath the string of villagers’ tragic deaths lies a horrifying tale about the darkness within human nature.
Directed by Li Zhiwen, Strange Stories of Five Lives River leans on a strong ensemble — Peng Yusi, Cheng Chaoyue, Wang Shuangbao — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2025.
