When two teenage fans learn that the bust of the legendary Jim Morrison ("The Doors") has been stolen from his grave in the Pêre Lachaise cemetery in Paris, they model a new one and make a pilgrimage to the grave site. On the anniversary of the singer's death, when numerous fans gather in Paris, they fall into the hands of Parisian crooks of the same age, who "elegantly" rob them.
Directed by Andreas Piontkowitz, König der Eidechsen leans on a strong ensemble — Cornelia Cabralle, Harald Kleber, Manfred Köhler — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about tv movie titles of 1990.
