A girl, much into anti suicidal campaigns commits suicide after six months of self-imposed marital bondage. What reflections do her death leave on her family and loved ones? This film, in a nutshell, is a journey of her ashes from Pondicherry to Dhanushkodj to be immersed by her family. The boy with whom she had been in love joins the journey at a juncture and what happens then is the film.

Directed by Dhamayanthi, Kaayal leans on a strong ensemble — Lingesh, Gayathrie Shankar, Anumol — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2025.
